Currentfilm.com Review:

"Bullshit" is the new "news" series on Showtime hosted by popular comedic/magic duo Penn & Teller. Each week, they focus in on a topic and go about exposing the "Bullshit" behind it. We're told that the duo have to call the fraud that they are exposing "Bullshit" for legal reasons - which seems like "BS" itself, but it's all still quite entertaining.

Season two of the series shows it actually gaining strength, once again going after targets with sharp wit and hilarious reveals. The nice thing about the series is that the two are offering information for consideration, informing and educating about topics, then leaving you - the viewer - to decide whether or not it's all a load of crap. The segments are wonderfully produced, with a mixture of facts and interviews that - to the show's credit, especially for what could argued is an "educational/news" show - is anything but dry. In fact, each episode of the series zips by with remarkable momentum.

This time around, Penn and Teller take on the reality behind a series of relevant topics, including such hefty topics as "World Peace" and "Being Green". The green episode is rather fascinating, and includes an interview with a woman who runs a website that sells carbon credits to people who want to offset their use of things like SUVs. However, there's no oversight of how the money is used or how the amounts are computed. The show doesn't deny global warming, but it highlights some of the...well, BS.

Another highlight is the episode on "New Age Medicine", which explores the realities behind such treatments as acupuncture, acutonics (sound healing) and other such remedies. Also under the "new age" category is "Dolphins", where Penn and Teller debate the belief that Dolphins are "mystical", have a special "energy" and have "healing powers" (an actual practice called "dolphin healing".) Quite interesting is "NASA", which takes a look into whether or not it's worth keeping the institution going in this day and age or to turn over the industry to private companies.

VIDEO: "Bullshit" is presented by Showtime in 1.33:1 full-frame, the show's original aspect ratio. The picture quality is quite good, as the image consistently remained crisp and clean, with excellent sharpness and detail. Colors remained bright and vivid, while a little bit of occasional shimmering was the only concern.

SOUND: The show's Dolby Digital 2.0 presentation was actually not too bad. While certainly dialogue-driven, some instances of musical score were nicely reinforced by the surrounds. Dialogue remained natural and easily understood throughout.

EXTRAS: Bios - that's it.

Final Thoughts: The sixth season of Penn and Teller's show continues to explore half-truths and scams in a way that's both informative and incredibly funny. Showtime's DVD edition provides excellent audio/video quality, along with a couple minor supplemental features. Highly recommended.
